Para-Nordic athlete Tyler Mosher Leads Canadian Way in Para-Snowboarding

On February 3rd and 4th, para-snowboarders from seven countries hit the slopes at Orcières 1850 to compete for Gold in back to back WSF Para-Snowboard World Cup races hosted by Orcières 1850, the French Snowboard Initiative, My Snowboarding, and the World Snowboard Federation (WSF).

Canadian para-snowboard athlete Tyler Mosher, the defending World Champion in the discipline, had a blazing start to the 2011 season last weekend with two podium result as the 2011 Para-Snowboard World Cup season kicked off in France.

Mosher took two silver medals, finishing slightly behind American rider Evan Strong on both days. American rider Keith Gabel grabbed the bronze on both days.

In the women’s action, the podiums were also identical on both days of exciting action. American rider Amy Purdy took the first position on the two race days, followed by American Nicole Roundy. Rookie rider Fabienne DeSavoie of France was third.

The 2011 Orcières 1850 WSF Para-Snowboard World Cup races yielded top talent from around the globe, including riders from Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United States.

Canada will host the next Para-Snowboarding World Cup in Lake Louise, Alberta, from April 7 to 9, 2011.

The sport of para-snowboarding is currently in evaluation for a possible inclusion to the 2014 Paralympic Games programme.
