(Nakiska, AB – April 3, 2012) Consecutive WSF Para~Snowboard World Cups took place over the past two days in perfect weather at Nakiska Resort in the Canadian Rockies. Riders in the sitting, standing and visually impaired categories battled for the honours on the same course that will be used for the Canadian Snowboard Nationals later this week.

In the men’s sitting category, Sam Danniels, the 2012 Winter X-Games champ from Whistler, BC, won back-to-back Para World Cup gold medals. The victories leave no doubt that he is the best in the category. Ravi Drugan from the United States claimed the overall WSF title with a second and third place finish in Nakiska.

“The course was pretty different from anything I’ve ever done. It was really fast tempo on a pretty steep slope so it was kind of scary at inspection, but it ran really well, so it was a lot of fun,” said Danniels after the race.

In the women’s standing category, Bibian Mentel from the Netherlands won back-to-back gold medals. On the men’s side, Evan Strong from the United States won double gold, proving that he is the man to beat on the WSF Para~Snowboard World Cup tour. Mentel and Strong also won the overall WSF title. Tyler Mosher from Whistler, BC, was the top Canadian finishing in third place at the first event and fifth place at the second.

“I’m really happy,” said Mosher. “This course is not designed for my disabilities. I think for me to get on the podium yesterday meant I had a pretty good run.”

Mosher will return home to Whistler, BC, to help inspire others about the possibilities that exist for those living with a disability during the “Spring Fling” in Whistler from April 12th -15th. Mosher is excited to return with a podium under his belt.
